Exclusive Shore Event: Belfast | Titanic Belfast, City Highlights and Festive Lunch
We begin our day with a drive towards The Titanic Quarter of Belfast. Your first visit this morning is to the newest visitor attraction Titanic Belfast. The Titanic Belfast recently opened in March 2012 to commemorate a 100 years since the sinking of the Titanic which was built in Belfast. Located in the heart of Belfast City, this state of the art visitor experience tells the story of the ship Titanic, from her conception in Belfast in the early 1900's, through her construction and launch until her famous maiden voyage and tragic end. We will learn about Belfast at the turn of the century as a thriving boom town and experience a thrilling ride through a dramatic presentation of the shipyards as well as the Titanic under construction. Here we will be brought deep into the stories of the passengers, the crew and the heroes of the day.
Next we will reboard our coach and make our way to Belfast City Center passing by the city's major thoroughfares as well as many of Belfast's imposing buildings on our way to Belfast City Hall to view the memorial dedictated to the Titantic. City Hall reopened in late 2009 after a huge refurbishment and is a "must-see" on any visit to Belfast. Completed in 1906 to commemorate Queen Victoria's giving Belfast the status of a city in 1888 and it is also the location of the first parliament session in Belfast in 1921. Admire City Hall's immense renaissance palazzo, featuring four corner towers and a massive 173 foot copper dome. Enjoy a wonderful tour of this iconic building.
We then make our way to the beautiful 5 star Merchant Hotel Belfast for lunch. The Merchant Hotel Belfast is one of Belfast's little treasures.
Before returning to the ship we will enjoy a panoramic city tour. This tour will take in the city center, Titanic Quarter, Cathedral Quarter as well as the Political districts. Closer to the pier we will see two of the city's most impressive structures that are not buildings at all, but are the giant cranes of the Harland and Wolff Shipyards. Affectionately known as Samson and Goliath, the German-built cranes dominate the skyline where the Titanic was built. Enjoy an Irish coffee in a local pub prior to reboarding the ship.
Approximate Length: Eight hours
Suggested Attire: Warm clothing and/or a rain jacket and some comfortable walking shoes. Easy to moderate walking.
