Exclusive Shore Event: Charleston | City Highlights & Lunch at Wentworth Mansion

We will be greeted on the pier by representatives of our ground operator, for our private motor coach tour of Charleston, with its rich heritage of gracious well-kept houses, distinguished churches and glorious gardens.

Nestled between the Ashley and the Cooper Rivers, Charleston is one of America's most historic and beautiful cities. Charleston in the 18th century was considered the cultural center of the colonies. During our sojourn we will pass beautiful homes, gardens, churches and buildings which lie within the confines of what was the Walled City of Charleston.

One of the highlights of our special excursion will be a visit to one of the finest 18th century homes in the city. The Thomas Rose House, which is privately owned, was built circa 1735 and is an excellent example of asymmetrical Georgian architecture. The furnishings are mid to late 18th century and both the home and the furnishings are being lovingly preserved by the family. While here we will have the pleasure of viewing both the house and the garden which is considered one of the most beautiful in Charleston.

Following our visit we will make our way to St. Michael Church which is the oldest church edifice in the City of Charleston standing on the site of the first Anglican Church built south of Virginia. The cornerstone was laid in 1752 and in 1761 the church was opened for services.

We will continue into the 19th century with a delicious luncheon accompanied by wine and beer at "Circa 1886" located in the carriage house of the Wentworth Mansion, a Five Diamond Inn located in the heart of downtown Charleston. After lunch we will be treated to a private tour of the mansion.

Following our lunch, we will return to the pier by approximately 2:30pm making a stop en-route in town for those guests who wish to explore on their own. Guests wishing to remain in town must make their own arrangements back to the ship.
