Exclusive Shore Event: Palams | Medieval Gerona with a Gourmet Catalonian Lunch
Our day starts with a drive from Palams to the ancient city of Gerona, which is one of the most valuable heritage sites in the Catalonian region. For our first stop, we'll walk along the Western world's largest section of defensive wall dating back to Charlemagne. Next, we'll wind our way through the cobblestone corridors of the best-preserved Jewish quarter in Spain and then continue into the medieval city located on the banks of the river Onyar. Here we will see the famed "Tapestry of Creation" in Gerona's 12th-13th century cathedral and visit the Bonastruc Jewish Center, which chronicles the history of the Jews that lived here during the Middle Ages. We'll also learn how the "Aljama", or self-governing communities of Moors and Jews living under Spanish Christian rule, functioned and their traditions.
For lunch, we'll feast on Catalonian specialties complemented by regional wines at a local restaurant. Time permitting, we'll make a stop at the medieval village of Pals where we'll have some time to stroll and explore its narrow, picturesque streets and browse its many colorful shops.
Approximate Length: 7 hours
Suggested Attire/Walking Notes: Comfortable walking shoes. Medieval Gerona includes some cobblestones and some hills, though visitors can easily wait for the group in a nice café near the river and join them for lunch.
