Exclusive Shore Event: Dubrovnik | Historic Tour, Wine Tasting and Lunch

Croatia is one of Europe's most ancient states. In the 6th century the eponymous chieftain of the Croats, Chrovatos, migrated to the old Roman province of Illyricum, just south of the Danube. His followers managed to dwell separately from the prodigious Byzantine Empire for hundreds of years. Then in AD 924, King Tomaslave created an independent Roman Catholic realm. The walled city of Dubrovnik was a jewel in the king's crown. Voyager Club members will revel in the beauty of this gem on the Adriatic's Dalmatian Coast.

Our day begins with a panoramic drive from the "new" city to the Old town with spectacular views of the city walls and the islands around Dubrovnik.  Once in the Old town we will begin our walking tour. An important maritime port and a one-time state, Dubrovnik has always been a cultural metropolis. More than a thousand-year history is reflected in every part of the town.
As one of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Dubrovnik owes its special charm to the historic monuments which testify to its rich history. The works of artists, writers and scientists of Dubrovnik have been woven into the texture of the town. While strolling with your guide down Stradun, the main street, we will stop to visit the Franciscan monastery of the "Order of Friars Minors" that preserves one of the three oldest pharmacies in Europe.
You will continue down to Orlando Column and the Sponza Palace and visit the Church of St. Blasius, the patron-saint of the town. You will also discover the Rector's Palace, the magnificent structure of the dukes of Dubrovnik, and the Cathedral of the Virgin Mary with a treasury containing the originals by Tiziano and Rafaelo and many other valuable relicts. We will also visit Jewish Street (Zidovska ulica) and Sephardic Synagogue. This is the second oldest Synagogue and one of the most cherished sites of Sephardic culture in the world. The synagogue was established in 1408 by the Jews who came to Dubrovnik from Spain and it was severely damaged in the disastrous earthquake of 1667. The Synagogue houses ceremonial objects from the 16th18th centuries, which were hidden in an unknown place during World War ll and returned to the Synagogue afterwards.
Next, we will take you for an extraordinary experience: Tale of Oysters and Wine with a Private Sommelier at the charming Razonoda Wine Bar. With a story of the glorious Republic of Dubrovnik, enjoy a private oyster, cheese and wine tasting. Quality soil and beneficial Dalmatian sun in the outskirts of the Republic allowed the grapes to produce abundant grape bunches, traditionally used to make Croatia's most renowned wines like "Dingac" and "Plavac". These areas were also known as the paradise for seafood lovers. Traces of oyster farming were noted even by Roman chroniclers and they depicted them as the best aphrodisiacs at the time.
After trying these irresistible delicacies, we will continue to the nearby Klarisa restaurant for lunch. Behind Great Onofrio's Fountain lies the monastery of St. Claire, the best known and the most important of the eight monasteries for women in Dubrovnik. It was built in the 13th and 14th century. Within the exquisite settings of the ancient monastery's atrium, the restaurant Klarisa offers unforgettable gastronomic experience. We will enjoy fresh traditional cuisine complimented by local wines.
After lunch we will return to the pier. Should you wish, you may decide to stay in the Old Town on your own to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of Dubrovnik. Nestled in the intricate network of the cobblestone streets, it abounds with charming cafes, boutiques and local curiosities.

Approximate Length: Five hours 30 minutes.

Suggested Attire: Casual wear with comfortable shoes. There will be moderate walking with some cobblestones and uneven surfaces.
