Exclusive Shore Event: Cairns | Dreamtime Walks and Daintree Wonders
Today we discover Australia's rich Aboriginal culture and the primeval beauty of UNESCO World Heritage-listed Daintree National Park. Travel north from Cairns along a section of Queenland's scenic Great Tropical Drive on the way to Mossman Gorge, homeland to the indigenous Kuku Yalanji people. There you are welcomed with a traditional smoking ceremony - believed to cleanse and ward off bad spirits - before setting off on a Ngadiku Dreamtime walk. Meander through stunning rainforest, passing small humpies (huts) and sacred sites while your interpretive Indigenous guide reveals ancient plant use, identifies bush food sources, and offers enchanting narrative of the Aboriginals' relationship with this unique tropical environment. Watch your guide demonstrate bush soap-making and ochre painting, take a refreshing dip in a waterhole, and enjoy traditional bush tea and damper.
Next we head to Daintree Ecolodge for an organic lunch, enjoying fresh, locally sourced fare and fine Australian wines on the balcony overlooking a tranquil lagoon. Our final stop is Port Douglas for a short stroll along Macrossan Street, the township's central hub lined with boutique shops, galleries, and restaurants.
Approximate Length: 8 hours
Suggested Attire: Casual attire, comfortable walking shoes, and sun protection. This tour requires a moderate level of fitness, and is not wheelchair accessible. Rainforest walk is over uneven terrain with some inclination, which can be slippery when wet.
PLEASE NOTE: All Virtuoso events ashore are capacity controlled and require a minimum number of participants to operate. Events are subject to change without notice.
