Exclusive Shore Event: Aghios Nikolaos | Flavors of the Minoan Civilization
Upon arrival in Aghios Nikolaos, we'll depart for Malia a coastal town known for its archaeological site and nightlife. We'll explore the third-largest Minoan palace in Crete and hear stories about the civilization. The Minoans constructed the palace around 1900 B.C., but an earthquake destroyed it a few hundred years later. In 1650 B.C., the people reconstructed the palace and a fire destroyed it again. At the ancient ruins, we'll dig deep into the details about its architecture, including the civilization's use of labyrinths.
After the palace tour, we'll continue to a farm to taste local delicacies and regional flavors. We'll participate in a unique cooking class to gain an understanding of the Minoan's culinary traditions and techniques. The class will explain how these practices impacted the region's present-day cuisine and how traditional recipes have evolved throughout history. Finally, we'll enjoy a customary lunch at a local restaurant before heading back to the port.
Approximate Length: 7 hours
